The M1 Abrams is a Third Generation MBT produced in the United States. The M1 Abrams has a M256A1 120mm Smoothbore tank gun. The turret is fitted with two six barreled smoke launchers (USMC uses the eights barreled version) that creates a thick smoke that blocks both vision and thermal imaging. The Abrams also has a separate ammunition area with a blowout cell to protect crew. It features Armor based on the British Chobham composite armor formed by spacing multiple layers of various alloys of steel, ceramics, plastic composites, and Kevlar giving it an estimated maximum frontal armor of 1,320-1,620mm (52-62in) of RHAe versus HEAT(and other chemical energy rounds) and 940-960mm (37-38in) versus kinetic energy penetration. It may also be fitted with reactive armor over the track skirts as a urban survival kit.
